COUNTRY TOWN RESCUE

One dollar. One town. One shot at a new life.
(6x30min) factual series.
Premieres 8pm, Tuesday 27 March ABC1
Country Town Rescue is the compelling story of how ordinary Australians come together in the hope of saving the small rural town of Trundle.
Like many regional towns across Australia, Trundle is in crisis. Ten years of drought and the promise of a better life in the city has led to many of the younger locals leaving. Businesses have shut-up shop, farmhouses have been abandoned and the schools have begun to struggle as their class sizes dwindle.
But Trundle isn’t going down without a fight. The town has a passionate and proactive community at its heart, and they have heard about a scheme that just might work for them. The idea is simple. Rent out some of the derelict farmhouses for just a dollar-a-week in the hope that new people will be attracted to the town. They call it the ‘Trundle Tree Change’.
Filmed over twelve months, this series follows five families who ‘up sticks’ with their kids and move to the bush. Will they build new lives and friendships? Will the traditional country community accept them? Marriages and relationships will be tested, personalities will clash, lives will be reinvented and not all will stay the distance.
Country Town Rescue is a series that’s big in heart and big in ambition, as everyday families experience the highs and lows of country life in an attempt to bring a proud little community back from the brink.
Country Town Rescue is made by Zapruder’s Other Films, producers of The Gruen Transfer.
